How Often Should I Have My Shutter Serviced?

Depending on your location and personal needs, service to your shutters can range from every 3 months, to once a year. General lubrication is recommended once every 3 months to prevent excess dirt and debris from compromising your system.

Annual and/or Bi-Annual service is recommended for proper inspection and lubrication of your shutters. Inspecting your shutters for signs of damage yearly can save thousands in potential repair cost. Preventative maintenance is also important for extending the life of your shutters.

How Long Can I Expect My Shutters To Last?

With proper care and correct usage, many shutters can last 30+ years. While some shutters eventually decay to a point of no return, the majority can be maintained and restored over time. Many of the components in shutters are able to be replaced. When parts break, fixing them promptly can help to avoid a total loss of the system. Generally speaking, core components such as motors and slat* curtains are able to be replaced once every few decades, given proper care is used. Finding an expert who understands various system and has the parts available to fix them can make all the difference!

When Is The Right Time To Use My Shutter?

Many people falsely believe using their shutter less often will extend the lifetime of the system. While many people install shutters simply for hurricanes and strong storms, they also provide many additional benefits. Daily and/or weekly usage of shutters is not only great for sun control, security, and temperature control, but it also helps extend your systems lifetime! Motors and components benefit from frequent use of the system. This helps to break loose any buildup of dirt and debris, while keeping electrical components from deteriorating due to salt and weathering. Use of systems at least once every 1-3 months is highly recommended for these reasons.
